Tim Kelly is a new face with a new franchise in the home inspections industry here in Moose Jaw.
Kelly, based in Regina, is with A Buyer’s Choice Home Inspections.
“I got involved by looking after and managing businesses in Regina for years,” he said. “I decided to go out on my own and manage my own business. Customer service is a huge attribute that I’ll add to any business.”
Kelly was always interested in realty and the market, so going with an established franchise seemed to make the most sense.
“We chose the path of A Buyer’s Choice. They’re the biggest home inspection company in Canada.,” Kelly said. “The program looked really well so this past May, my wife and myself we bought the franchise, took a leap of faith, studied for a year and did all the tests. Now we’re certified, insured for home inspection.”
The franchise is branded to do business in southern Saskatchewan and what they plan to offer their potential clients is to assist and protect people in their home buying decisions.
“We offer a maintenance program with home inspection where we come in annually and do a maintenance check of their house,” Kelly said. “We know buying a used house offers itself many different maintenance issues as you go on with home owning and safety concerns.
“We also offer a pre-home inspection, which is kind of a value ad to have a pre-inspection where you’re putting yourself on the market, you’d have us come in and do a pre-inspection of the home. It would make it more marketable for the buyers coming in, they would see that you really have nothing to hide or that you repaired deficiencies and make it more suitable for the price you’re asking.”
Becoming involved in home inspections isn’t an overnight thing.
“I’m insured through Hub International… the course is through Carson-Dunlop which is the most recognized home inspection course in Canada and it took over 1200 hours to complete that,” Kelly said. “That was correspondence online for the last eight months. Then we’re certified through InterNACHI, which is the international association for home inspectors.”
A Buyer’s Choice was the largest association of home inspectors in the province but had no presence in Southern Saskatchewan. Being a home inspector means needing to have a wide range of availability to do inspections.
“We offer three different time slots daily and it’s seven days a week.”
